In many regions rainwater seeps through sandy soil into the groundwater, which is hardly beneficial to the plants. In such areas, Geohumus improves the water retention of the soil, which not only saves water but also increases yields since the plants are continuously supplied with water. In the home and garden, Geohumus is ideal for many types of seedlings and potted plants, garden patches and newly seeded lawns. In horticulture and landscaping Geohumus is especially useful where there is either insufficient subsoil for water retention (noise control walls, roundabouts or greenroofs, for example) or where the water retention capacity is very low (for example on golf courses or trackbeds) and a balance has to be established between drainage and water retention. Special cultures such as asparagus and strawberries likewise benefit from the properties of Geohumus. Higher yields and earlier harvests are the immediate advantages for the farmer. In subsidized projects Geohumus is already being used today for desiccation and for preventing expansion of desert areas, as well as for reforestation of barren land.
